Early Tuesday morning the community of eThekwini woke to its Mayor Zandile Gumede, in the custody of the Hawks through voluntary means.
Following lengthy fraud and corruption investigations into the Municipality’s 2016 waste Tender issued during the mayorship term of Gumede, whose 208 million was paid out to service providers who delivered nothing.
“We would like to reiterate our faith in the justice system and hope that this matter will be treated with respect and integrity it deserves.” Said the ANC
Recently and in connect with the same allegations, nine of the city’s employees and company executives were arrested and celebrated worker’s day in police custody.
The accused are: Deputy Head of Strategy and New Development Robert Abby (62),Supply Chain Manager Sandile Ngcobo (41), Hlenga Sibisi (43), Mzandile Dludla (24), Sintamone Ponnan (53) and Prabagaram Pariah (61)
Magistrate Samaroo, granted 50 thousand rand bail to each of the accused. The court was adjourned to 8 August.
