This year marks the 4th Annual Smart Procurement World Regional KwaZulu-Natal Conference which took place at the Durban ICC from the 3rd of June till the 5th of June 2019.
Amongst many objectives the event unpacked the challenges of supply chain management, delivering practical and useful information to align the procurement and supply chain best practices. Over a thousand people in attendance witnessed the smart supplier conference, where suppliers were provided with a practical and relevant overview to how corporate companies build long term strategic relationships.
Recent statistics by Stats SA reveal that South Africa’s unemployment rate increased to 27.6% in the first quarter of 2019. All sectors barring manufacturing, trade and transport cut employment. Thus, small businesses play a vital role in job creation, the smart procurement world expo empowered black businesses, particularly small-medium enterprises. The expo highlighted how essential it is to empower such, if the country is going to radically transform and sustainably grow the economy.
With 50 speakers from different spheres, the conference sure ended at great note when more than 100 SMME’s representatives around the country went out with a clear knowledge as to how market for SMME’s is created and how they can support them. The SDE gave opportunity to them source, purchase and buy from government and private sector.
