Africa Television Market continues in Durban

In concurrent with the Durban International Film Festival, the ATM Durban Conference delivered three days of Industry talk centred by the 4IR demands.

An all round film industry forth industrial transformed perspective chaired the three day conversations represented by a panel of policy makers, entreprenures, industry leaders and creatives guided by former SA FM presenter Naledi Moleo.

The delve into the various dynamics such as marginalization, access to markets and data facing those in the broad business of television.

Acting Mayor Fawzia Peer said the city is committed to supporting the film industry and has for the 2019-2020 financial year, pledged a 15 million rand cash injection aimed at supporting produtions produced by local storytellers.

Ntombi Makwetu department of communications said that the sector has created 25 000 fulltime jobs,contributes 2.9 billion in economic value and 3.5 billion towards the GDP and that the 6th administration has identified the creative industry and is committed supporting its growth through.

“I believe that I am speaking to the converted here when I name some challenges facing the the industry. The key is transformation and Infrustructure and more specific to film its access to markets,training and funding intergration.”Said Makwetu

Leo Rolls founder and director Signa IT and PBICT president advisor on 4IR, said our current advocacy is on the ownership of spectrum which is a 85 billion rand industry. ” If we are not talking about that then we must forget it. We continue to push hastag accessandownership. We dont own technology, content or platforms. We are largely consumers and not producers.” Rolls said

According to the creative Lungelo Nxele née Dhladhla the mind behind the conference is the convergence of likeminded people whose conversations will focus on industry status quo, “We are striving to be different by being relevant in terms of knowledge and content, and in terms of stakeholders who are invited. We have, over the years, invite different practitioners and that has served as our biggest competitive advantage. However this year we would like to travel more into Africa and execute this market in different parts of the African continent.Nxele née Dhladhla said
